Advancing Digital Transformation in Cherbourg

DB Results has been working with Cherbourg Shire Council, the Department of Housing, Communities, and Digital Economy, and the Department of Tourism, Innovation, and Sport in Queensland to develop digital transformation initiatives in Cherbourg for the Indigenous community.

Opportunity and access is the foundation of our First Nations digital strategy. Our partnership with CHDE aims to create stable, ongoing opportunities for indigenous and disadvantaged Queenslanders in the digital economy, while staying on-Country.

Driving community prosperity

From humble beginnings, the program has grown beyond everyone’s expectations. By September 2024, the Cherbourg and Palm Island Digital Service Centres have created over 50 permanent roles, many filled by people who were previously on Centrelink and, in some cases, are the first in their family to hold a job. As participants succeed, their communities are inspired, fuelling hope and encouraging more people to enroll in the TAFE-based induction training to join the program.

Nurturing the local tech eco-system in partnership with the Queensland Government

The Cherbourg Service Centre officially opened on 1 April 2022 and is the first digital service centre of its kind to operate in a remote Indigenous community.

The most meaningful impact for these organisations is fostering true reconciliation: the knowledge that they’re making a real, lasting difference. It’s about offering a “hand-up,” not a “hand-out,” and knowing they’re part of a movement that uplifts communities and builds lasting change.

    Become a participant

    Going out to the Cherbourg, Palm Island, or Yarrabah Digital Service Centre and setting up your own team is a deeply rewarding experience; one that requires material investment of time, resources, and heart. To date, partners have been successful with call centre agents and software testers. This approach may be cost prohibitive if you are looking to hire less than 10 team members.

    Partner with an Indigenous organisation to manage recruitment, training, and staff oversight within local communities, rather than establishing your own presence there. This approach is especially effective if you’re looking to bring on a smaller team of one to four members.

    Engage DB Results for a digital project

    When you engage DB Results for a digital project, we guarantee the creation of new jobs within an Indigenous community. The number of jobs generated will depend on the size of the project and applies to mobile apps, core systems modernisation, web apps, and migrations.

    Getting candidates ready for their first Digital Service Centre job is important – interested companies can sponsor existing training new training programs.

The Digital Service Centre Model

The Digital Service Centre Program aims to increase Indigenous representation across key sectors like agriculture, energy, and government services, and empowers Indigenous entrepreneurs with funding, mentorship, and skill-building resources, paving the way toward sustainable economic independence and brighter futures.
